A WARM sunny Saturday afternoon heralded the opening fixture for Millwood Bowling Club who welcomed Penyrheol to the club.

Rink 2 saw N Tutton, D Woodfin and G Williams ease to an 8 shot to 2 lead after 5 ends.

And they increased this to 19 shots to 4 after 10 to win comfortably 28 shots to 11.

On Rink 3 D Bourne, P Taylor and K Davies also found the rink to their liking and with their opponents finding difficulty reading the green raced into 21 shot to 4 lead after 10 ends, finally winning 27 shots to 16.

Rink 4 saw a more even contest develop between G Smith, K Lewys and B Crockford with the visitors slipping into a 6 shot to 2 lead after 5 ends.

However the home rink fought back to lead 10 shots to 9 after 10.

Over the next 6 ends the lead changed regularly and were level at 16 all but 3 to the home team was cancelled out by 3 to the visitors on the last end with scores level at 17 apiece.

Rink 5 saw M Lucas, M Gronow and R Browne also find the green to their liking, racing to a 12 shot to 2 lead winning a shade cosily 17 shots to 9.

Overall victory to Millwood 97 shots to 52.

Last Wednesday evening Millwood travelled to Sully to play the Munro Cup fixture against the village side and on a green which had not settled down after some recent greenkeeping the visitors did not take to the green as well as the home players and lost on all 4 rinks and the match by 74 shots to 43.

Well done to Sully and better luck to Millwood next time.
