MILLWOOD Bowling Club welcomed Rhoose last week for the first home match of the season in the Munro Cup.

Mark Williams, John Cauldwell, Haydn Spencer and Gordon Davies despite dropping three shots on the first end roared back and after 10 ends led 19 shots to 9 but a spirited fight back by the visitors was not enough to stop a home victory 25 shots to 19.

On Rink 4 Stan Hopkins, Keith Thomas, Tony Cole and Brian Crockford found themselves in a scrap from the start and led 8 shots to 7 after 5 ends and held on to a 1 shot lead after 10 ends 12 shots to 11, with the sides level 15 all at the 15th end 3 shots gained by the visitors proved enough to sneak a 2 shot win 18 shots to 16.

Rink 4 also provided a nail biter.

Clive Hopkins, Mike Sewell, Mike Gronow and Gary Williams eased into 7shot to 5 lead after 5 ends,and still held a 3 shot lead at the 12th end but a run of 7 shots saw the visitors lead 14 shots to 12 after 15 ends 2 shots gained by the home side saw the scores level after 17 ends where a 1 on the last end meant the visitors won by the narrowest of margins 15 shots to 14.

Rink 5 saw Micky Lucas, Arthur Norris, John Cauldwell and Keith Davies race into an 18 shot to 2 lead after 10 ends and with the visitors finding it difficult to read the green ran out comfortable winners 28 shots to 5.

Overall victory was Millwood's at 85 to 54 shots.
