SULLY Centurions Cricket Club 1st XI were back in action after last week’s washout with a home fixture against Ponthir.

However, it was the visitors who came away with the victory.

Resplendent in their new green and gold kit, Centurions were asked to bat first on a pitch that had seen some heavy rain in the previous few days.

It didn’t take long to see how losing the toss affected the home side, as Gethin Hicks was out for just one run with just five runs on the board.

Things didn’t improve as the game progressed, with wickets falling regularly.

After slumping to 38-4, there was a mini revival as both Ricki Griffett (20) and Luke Tillbrook (30) batted well to give Centurions some hope.

But the remaining batsmen couldn’t capitalize on this, with the home side slumping to 132 all out.

Ponthir skipper Pardoe was the pick of the visiting bowlers with 3-35.

The other wickets were shared around, with two wickets each for Tombs, Jarvis and Waterhouse, and one for Smith.

Ponthir coped well with the opening attack before home skipper Rhett Jones opted for spin, with Lloyd Bruce and Jake Griffett managing to put the brakes on and taking the first Ponthir wickets. However, Adams (39) and Hardman (50 not out) found their touch to take the game away from Sully.

The target was reached in the 29th over for the loss of five wickets, with Jake Griffett (3 for 32) and Lloyd Bruce (2-48) taking the wickets.
