ON a sunny, but cold afternoon, Sully Centurions Cricket Club bade farewell to this truncated 2020 season with a short trip to Barry Island to face old pals Barry Athletic in a T20 match, which the hosts won by 25 runs.

Batting first, Barry reached 39 before Nick Jones took the wicket of Thasan for 12. Nuwan (21) and Hopkins took the score along to 60 when a mix up gifted a second wicket to the visitors when Nuwan was run out.

Then, a half century partnership saw the score reach 126 when Toutt became the first of three victims for David Goodway, falling for 16.

Hopkins, who had been finding the boundary with ease, followed two runs later, falling again to Goodway for a top score of 45.

But the tail added some well-earned runs and although 9 wickets eventually fell, a score 174 was posted after the allotted 20 overs.

Sagara was not out for 21 at the end.

For Centurions, David Goodway returned the best bowling figures (3 for 18) with the remaining wickets being shared between Jake Griffett, Nick Jones, Kieron Ferriday and Shae Ellis, who all took one wicket each.

In reply, Centurions were always up against it, needing to keep up with the run rate, but being two wickets down after five overs.

Rhett Jones began well, but after reaching 27, including five boundaries, he was caught off the bowling of Toutt with the score on 39.

Bruce and Griffett (who survived a first ball duck by being bowled off a no ball) added 18 runs each, both eventually falling to the bowling of Romana.

Patrick Lane (24) and Nick Jones (13) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as Sully's innings eventually came to an end on 149 for 7.

Once again, the wickets were shared round the bowlers - all getting one except for Romana, whose 2 for 21 was the pick of the Athletic bowling.

Barry Athletic 174-9 Sully Centurions 149/7

So, we say goodbye to the 2020 season, and all at the club fervently hope that the 2021 season will be business as usual. Fingers crossed!
