BANK Holiday Monday saw the first and only open competition of the season at Brynhill Golf Club, writes Nicky Duval.
Mixed teams of two men and two women from within the club and as far afield as Kington in Herefordshire came together on a beautiful afternoon on the Barry course to compete for a win.
Coming out on top with a 59.9 were brother and sister Calvin and Kerrie O’Carroll with Calvin’s son Fred and Kerrie’s daughter Lily Mae, both county players, making up the foursome.
Ex-professional and first team member Calvin said that they all contributed to the winning score with.
Fred, as team captain, and he used their length advantages on certain holes and new to golf.
Kerrie, Brynhill’s bar manager, and Lily Mae took advantage on certain holes with their forward tee.
Both Kerrie and Lily holed some huge putts when they needed them most.
Calvin commented further that it was a very enjoyable experience and his first ever mixed open.
Second place with a score of 61.8 went to Mike Reddi and Mike Cockfield from Brynhill accompanied by two lady visitors.
A fantastic day was had by all with socially distanced refreshments on the patio after the round.
