FINALS Day on Saturday at Brynhill Golf Club saw three competitive matches played in the correct Corinthian spirit, the Buck Rabbit for 18 and over handicappers was won by Warren Mason who squeezed out David Johnson on the 17th to win by 2n1.

The same result in the Howell Hughes, 10-17 handicappers, saw Oli Jeynes beat Mike Reddi, to claim the “Midway”.

Slasher Giles will be scrutinising their cards and it’s unlikely any of the finalists will be contesting the same category next season.

Barry And District News:

Club champion Jamie Griffiths

The main event was of course the 36 hole Club Championship between Jamie Griffiths and Lee Price.

Price had turned over reigning champion and favourite Scott Bowman in the semis but couldn’t reproduce the same form in the final, which saw the vastly experienced Griffiths become club champion for 2020, eventually claiming a well-deserved 8n7 victory.

It was a tough pill to swallow for Lee and we had wondered how this disappointment would affect him going forward.

Well we didn’t have long to wait for an answer as the he claimed top spot in the following day’s Don the Fox Cup, with a blistering 6 under handicap 65, 1 better than second placed Mark Borges.

Can’t keep a good man down.

Next weekend is the 36 hole, two day Captains Prize where, as is tradition at Brynhill, the giant scoreboard is erected on the patio, so nowhere to run to nowhere to hide, whether you are a category 1 player or hardcore hackerati.

Remember any score no matter how bad is better than a No Return.

Winter deals on membership are now available at Brynhill.
