A NEW autumn of tennis is being launched by Barry Athletic Tennis Club to encourage more to take advantage of social-distance friendly sporting and keep fit opportunities provided by tennis.

Suitable for all ages and abilities the club wants to make it as easy as possible to enjoy a socially distant-friendly sport including free racquet hire.

New courses include:

• Tennis Xpress is for Adult Beginners who are new or returning to the game. This six-week course aims to build confidence and skills costs £30 or is fee if you join the club and starts each week at 5.30pm on Tuesday, September 8th

• Tennis for Kids is for new players aged seven to eleven. For £29.99 children will receive six weeks coaching, a racket, T-shirt and tennis balls.

Barry Athletic Tennis Club is offering reduced membership to encourage as many people as possible to enjoy a sport that is social distant friendly.

Membership also includes entry into the club’s ballot to buy Wimbledon tickets.

The club is adopting guidelines by Tennis Wales, the ruling body for tennis in Wales, to ensure safety is paramount.

Tennis Wales and the Lawn Tennis Association have published detailed guidance for venues, coaches and players, so that tennis in Wales is able to safely resume.

Social tennis evenings are on Mondays and Thursdays from 5pm.

One-to-one coaching, from eight years through to adults is also available with the club’s professional coaches Siwan Stephens or Rob Wedlake.

Commenting on the move the club’s coach Rob Wedlake said: “Tennis is a social-distant friendly sport. By following guidelines we can do our utmost to play safe while enjoying a great sporting activity for all ages and abilities.”
