AFTER last week's washout at Crumlin, Sully Centurions Cricket Club finished their mini league fixtures with another home defeat, this time against Merthyr CC.

Batting first on a pitch that had been subject to the ravages of the wind and rain during a week that saw both the sight screens and the covers damaged, Centurions struggled to get the ball away and were reduced to 12 for 4 in the seventh over.

However, skipper Rhett Jones shared a stand of 27 with Ricki Griffet (6) and 22 with Bharat (15) before the tail succumbed to the visiting attack.

Jones was left on 46 not out when he ran out of partners and the innings closed on a meagre 86 all out.

Lewis was the pick of the visiting bowlers, ending with figures of 5 for 37.

In reply, Merthyr reached the target for the loss of 4 wickets. Murphy, who made 29 not out, and Rhodes (25) were the top scorers.

For Centurions, Bharat returned figures of 2 for 12, with four maidens. Ricki Griffett (2 for 10) was the other wicket taker for the home side.

Centurions are grateful to Vere Street Mini Market for sponsoring the match ball.
