BRYNHILL Golf Club remembered ex-greenkeeper raconteur and damned fine golfer Fred Clisset last Sunday when it held the inaugural Grass Cutters Cup.

Difficult blustery conditions meant low scores were a bit thin on the ground but Winner Mark Borge bucked the trend with a fine 5 under handicap 67, 5 ahead of runner up Digger James.

A special mention goes to international surveyor of quantities Peter Stafford who recorded a hole in one on the 565 yard par five 18th, a hole so long Tiger Woods on steroids couldn’t have reached it.

However, turns out neither could Pete, he actually scored an eleven but the score was so bad the computer just couldn’t believe it and marked the hopeless hacker down for an Ace.

Artificial Intelligence, you’ve gotta luv it.

The Brynhill Seniors Championship Trophy was battled for on Monday.

The winner was Kevin Byrne with a solid 40 points four ahead of second placed Colin Braddon.

Next weekend it’s the 36 hole Captains Prize, played over two days it’s a test of both skill and endurance, with a large scoreboard on the patio there’s no hiding place for hackers.

Just remember two bad rounds are better than a No Return on your scorecard.
