LEE Selby will shut up another motormouth when he takes on outspoken Australian George Kambosos Jnr this autumn, St Joseph's trainer Tony Borg has pledged.

The 33-year-old from Barry was scheduled to take on the unbeaten Aussie in Cardiff in May for the right to take on IBF lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.

The clash at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic and will now take place in the capital on Saturday, October 3.

Selby is bidding to make Welsh history by becoming a two-weight world champion and is unruffled by the verbal barbs coming from Kambosos.

The Aussie has claimed it is a bout that the Newport-based fighter didn't want, labelled him "boring" and claimed he is "very nervous".

Borg knows that his man has heard it all before – and proved his quality in the ring.

"Lee is a class act and has seen it all before. He has sparred with the best and is unbeaten against cocky fighters who are going to do this and that," said the legendary St Joseph's trainer.

"They have been coming over here and lee has sent them home with their tails between their legs.

"Two of them were Australians – Corey McConnell and Joel Brunker. They were both knocking on the door for a world title, both unbeaten and promising to do this and that. Lee did them both, same as he did with Evgeny Gradovich."

Borg believes his man will be the one receiving the backing from Down Under.

"Kambosos is confident bordering on cocky," said Borg. "I've had messages from Australia, where I've got family, telling me that everyone there wants him to get beaten.

"When the purse was put together for the fight they said that it wouldn't be in Australia – he wouldn't sell out there because he is disliked."

However, Kambosos will travel with an unbeaten record (18-0) and an aggressive approach.

Former world featherweight champion Selby, who has profited from moving up to lightweight, will be tested by the Aussie.

"This guy comes to fight, which suits Lee because he is a very clever boxer, who punches very sharply," said Borg.

"This style of fighter that interests us because he is not someone who just wants to come and grab and hold. They spoil fights but, in fairness, Kambosos is exciting and will come to fight."

Selby's St Joseph's stablemate Gavin Gwynne has helped kit out his Barry home to ensure that lockdown won't derail his preparations for the eliminator.

Borg has been leading sessions on video calls but hopes to soon welcome his fighter back to Newport.

"Lee is the consummate pro and has changed his garage into a gym with Gavin's help, they have done a great job," he said.

"When the time is right Lee will come back to the gym and we'll do the pad work and sparring, or if necessary I'll go to him for the pad work."
