Vale Utd 4 - 4 Cadoxton Barry

Cadoxton Barry go through 3 - 2 on penalties.

THESE two sides met in Barry just a week previously in the Supporters Divisional Cup. However the game was abandoned after 43 minutes with Vale United leading 3-1 and Cadoxton Barry down to nine men.

As a result of those red cards, Cadoxton Barry were forced to field a much weakened side for this higher profile Barry Cup at Vale Utd's Corntown home.

Cadoxton Barry started on the front foot, though 15 minutes was on the clock before they took the lead when Evo Evans made a great run down the right. Turning the defender he crossed for Humphries to convert from close in.

But it was a short-lived lead as just a couple of minutes later a long ball from deep caught the CB defence off guard as a Vale forward ran into space to execute a quality finish. And Vale took a half time lead when a powerful shot took a big deflection to catch out CB 'keeper Burboyne.

CB pressed from the start of the second half, with Slack restoring parity with a scorching low drive from well outside the box. Vale Utd reclaimed the lead when a Vale corner forced Burboyne into punching clear, but in the direction of an incoming forward to smash home through a crowded box. Now chasing the game, CB pressure forced Vale into conceding a penalty ten minutes from normal time. With it converted, the game played out for a 3 all draw.

Extra time saw CB take the lead when a long Burboyne clearance found Humphries who trapped the ball, pivoted and the fired home a cracker from 25 yards. But a penalty shoot out was assured for Vale when a free kick was deflected into the path of a Vale forward to once more square things up.

The shoot out was just as exiting as the previous 120 minutes as Evans, Burniston and Zomerovskis converted for CB while Burboyne pulled off two fine saves to see Vale converting only one of their attempts.

Much credit for the win goes to Zomerovskis who worked tirelessly in the middle of the park.
