ST JOSEPH’S star Lee Selby is set to face Australia’s George Kambosos in an eliminator for the IBF world lightweight title in Cardiff on May 9.

A deal has been struck between the two men’s representatives for the fight, although a venue is still to be confirmed.

Victory for Selby, 32, would make him mandatory challenger to current IBF champion Teofimo Lopez, who dethroned fellow New York resident Richard Commey in December.

The 26-year-old Kambosos has won all 18 of his contests as a professional, 10 inside the distance, with his most recent outing coming on the undercard of Lopez’s defeat of Commey at Madison Square Garden.

Selby is bidding to become Wales’ first two-weight world champion following his three-year reign as IBF featherweight king between 2015 and 2018.

It is understood the pair will headline the first major boxing show in Wales since Anthony Joshua fought Joshua Parker at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in March 2018.
