DAY 2 of Brynhill’s Captains Prize was finally completed on Sunday and in stark contrast to to the complete washout last month, this Sunday saw almost perfect golfing conditions at the Barry course.
After Day 1 Kevin Williams looked a good bet with a solid Nett 70, while Cael Penberthy carded the days best gross with a 78. Day twos best numbers came from young Tom Watt with a five under handicap 67 Nett while Kyron Sullivan posted the days best gross with a fine 71.
The Captains Prize however is a two day 36 hole comp and it was good to see Club Champion Scotty Bowman claim best overall gross with a two day total of 148.
Top prize with a best nett of 146, went to Peter Cooper, Coops is thought by many to be the best natural golfer Brynhill’s produced and great things were expected from him, sadly when the fork in the road had the choice of a lot of hard hours on the range or just carry on as you are, something had to give and Coops preferred to concentrate on his drinking and fags.
Just shows though, you can’t keep a good man down.
After the drama of the Captains Prize, Sunday sees an 18 hole Texas Scramble over this fine course, a bit of fun where four man teams go out and you have four stabs at every shot, the only pressure is each team must take at least three drives from each player, so you don’t really want to be stood on the 16th tee needing the group chopper to cane the next three tee shots.
As always at the Vale’s best course, golf will be the real winner
