BRYNHILL Golf Club staged its Finals Day on Saturday and thanks to the hard work and dedication of the green keeping staff, the Barry Course has never looked better.

Chief Buck Rabbit (17.5 to 28 handicap) was won by Steve Doyle, who fought back from three down to beat Andy Chick by 5n3.

In the Midway (9.5 to 18 handicap) Andy Goodland took on Mikey Moore, things were a lot tighter in this match, with the lead changing hands twice in the first three holes, before Moore battled to 3 up on the par 4 tenth.

What appeared an unassailable lead however was pegged back to all square, by the time they stood on 17 tee, as Goodland dragged himself back into contention.

Moore took the 17th to walk down the 18th fairway one up and a half on 18 was good enough to seal victory.

In the main event two Brynhill legends, Kyron Sullivan and Scotty Bowman contested the Club Championship, in a match that, as you’d expect, produced plenty of quality golf over the two rounds, with the scores level after 36 holes.

It needed an extra hole to decide the winner, with the pair having to play the 18th again to split them, both players stood over birdie putts that were pretty much equidistant from the hole.

Sullivan putted first but saw his ball hit the hole and horseshoed almost 360 degrees before agonizingly stopping right on the lip.

Up stepped Bowman and after all the qualifiers and knockout rounds it came down to this one putt.

Amazingly Scott’s ball also horseshoed but decided, after wiping its feet, to drop in, making him club champion for the third straight year and tenth time in total.

Also contested on Saturday was the George Williams Trophy, which saw Dave Johnson defeat Neil Tipples.

On Sunday it was back to medal golf with the Holme Towers Charity Cup.

Top of the pile was Micky Perry whose 67 was just enough to squeeze out Paddy Moore by a solitary shot.

Perry also took the best gross with a two over par 74, which will see handicap secretary Slasher Giles reduce Micky’s handicap before next weekend’s Stableford Singles.
