THE busy golf programme continued at Wenvoe Castle and last Saturday saw a high entry in the men’s medal competition for the Dai David Putter named after a former club professional.
The very changeable and unpredictable weather produced a mix of sunshine and sometimes heavy showers which provided an extra challenge on a delightful golf course.
Meirion Evans had been knocking on the door in previous competitions and finally found the right key to unlock a sparkling performance recording a net 69 in a round that included two birdies and eight pars. Wayne Curtis just missed out by one stroke with an excellent net 70 with Steve Bartlett only a stroke further back with a net 71.
On the same day the Ladies also competed in a medal competition for the prize of the GUW Welsh Dragon Brooch. Jill Rodgers produced an exceptional round of golf to score a net 71 and a comfortable win by 6 strokes.
The ever-consistent Jane Lott came second with a net 77 and Debbie Williams played well to finish in third place with a net 78.
There are still some tee times available for the Captain’s Charity Open Day on Saturday 7th September with an opportunity to play this superb golf course in a team of 4 players while raising funds for the nominated charity Parkinson’s UK.
