LOVE conquers all was the theme as the Cupid Cup took centre stage at Wenvoe Castle.

Normally it is just a membership and a handicap to enter the club competitions, but the Cupid Cup has one additional but essential requirement – a marriage licence.

All smiles on the first tee and perhaps a kiss on the cheek as the couples set off up the first fairway determined that indeed their love would conquer all.

The large entry saw the couples put their marriage vows to the sternest test in the greensome format where the most suitable drive is chosen.

The very warm conditions added to the challenge, but the course was, as usual, in superb condition and even if the golf was not as good as hoped the walk in the stunning scenery was more than adequate compensation.

The eventual winners were Alan and Fran Grant with an excellent score of 38 points with Martin and Mags Lewis just missing out by a single point.

Club captain Lesley Sherrard presented the prizes and congratulated Alan and Fran whose names would be on this coveted trophy for the first time.

Lesley thanked all those who had entered especially those still recovering from the very successful Charity Dance held at the club previous evening.

There were no ‘twos’ recorded and a draw using the scorecards was made to share the prize of golf balls which in some cases was a welcome reward and replaced those left out on the course.
