SULLY Sports Bowls Club visited neighbours Penarth Belle Vue for their Munro Cup game on Wednesday, 24th July.

In a close low scoring game the Sports triumphed on 3 rinks, and took an aggregate 63-59 overall win.

K Aguis’ rink raced off to a 13-0 lead after 5 ends, but a strong fightback by the Vue, winning 9 of the next 11 ends, reduced their deficit to 2 shots with 2 ends left. The visitors held their nerve to take both ends and win 19-14.

C Coomber’s rink went 7 shots down after 3 ends, which proved decisive, as although the won 9 of the remaining 15 ends, they could not score enough shots to pull the game out-of-the-bag, and went down 13-17.

L Roman’s rink was also very low scoring, and was behind from the opening end till the 12th, and nudge ahead to take a very close fought encounter by 13-11.

G Brown’s rink was hard fought, as both sides led at various times. The Vue took a 7 shot lead after 4 ends, before the Sports hit back to lead by 6 shots with 3 ends left.

The home rink took a 4, before the visitors scored a single on the penultimate end, and a 2 for the Vue left them a shot short, giving the Sports a 18-17 victory.

A Fitt, P Collier, K Romans, L Romans 13-11;

On Saturday, 27th July, Sully Sports hosted runaway League leaders Beaufort, and following the 73 shot away drubbing a 3 weeks earlier, they feared the worse, but went down on aggregate by only 6 shots, taking 1 rink and coming close on 2 others.

The Sports can be proud of their efforts, as Beaufort had won all their previous 7 games, with maximum points in 6 of them, and dropping only one rink in the 7th fixture.

Aguis’ rink lost the opening 2 ends, then took control with excellent bowling from all four rink members, to ease away to a handsome 24-12 victory.

K Romans’ rink had a steady start, and were never behind until the “unlucky 13th”saw the visitors grab the lead. fought back, and a 4 on the 19th end gave them a one shot lead, but the visitors took the last 2 ends for a narrow well fought 19-17 win.

C Coomber’s rink won half of the ends, but although the scores were level after 12 ends, the visitors blitz the last 9 to take a 27-14 victory, which proved to be so significant in the overall aggregate result.

G Brown’s rink faired poorly for 13 ends, but their fightback proved too little too late, as a very strong Beaufort rink done just enough to secure a 21-19 win.

Rink Scores:

A Thompson, B Knight, B Whyman, G Brown 19-21;

J Pearce, P Collier, G Currie, C Coomber 14-27;

D Austin, G Tricket, A Collard, K Agius 24-12;
