WITH overnight rain making the greens more receptive and ideal weather conditions, we all knew there was a good score to be had, out on this superb Brynhill Course, I had a right good look for it myself but sadly it proved elusive. No such problems for Nick Topley who picked up the prestigious Don the Fox Cup with a handicap busting net 67, in second, just one behind was James Lewis.

The day’s best gross score was posted by Scotty Warne with a decent 77.

Handicap Secretary Slasher Giles will be sharpening his pencil and it’s a certainty Messers Topley and Lewis will be playing off a reduced handicap next week. Congratulations Gents.

On the team front, Brynhill's woeful Wayhackers continued their disappointing run, with only Jones and Hewlett winning in a 4-1 reverse away to a fine Celtic Manor side, the match was played over the excellent Roman Road course, which was in tournament condition following the weekends Celebrity Cup.

With positives in short supply the highlight for the Brynhill Boys was probably the deconstructed cheese cake in the after match meal.

The Barry club welcomes Celtic Manor to Brynhill on Wednesday, for the return fixture, they’ll have to up their game if they want to get anything from this match.

This Sunday the club hosts its yearly members and guests tournament, in which members invite golfers from far and wide to take on this magnificent beast of a course.

As usual these will include various ringers and dodgy handicappers so good scoring is predicted.
