IT was one win and one loss for the Spartans on Saturday.

The first team got back to winning ways with a comprehensive 145-run victory over Blackwood.

Saeed Ali (74 ) and Andrew Davies (15) made a steady start taking no chances on a still drying wicket and moved the score slowly but surely to 80 after 20 overs.

The departure of Davies for a dogged 15 brought in Saneesh Chandran who took an instant liking to the opposition bowling attack hitting 2 sixes and 2 fours from one over ending up with a swashbuckling quick fire 43. Sandeep Shooken then Joined Ali who was next batsmen to go LBW for an excellent 74.

Sudhi Nair joined Shooken with the pair rattling the score along before Nair was out for a well structured 23 whilst Shooken was not out at the end for a calm and casual 65 pushing the home side to an excellent 265 for 5 at the end of the allotted 45 overs.

In response Blackwood could not cope with the seam of Eshan Parkin who bowled 9 overs 2 maidens and took 2 for 20 along with partner in crime Chiroo Samar who also bowled 9 overs 2 maidens and took 2 for 25 in an excellent opening attack.

Further wickets fell and the away side finished on 120 for 7 after the 45 overs.

The Second team travelled to the Vale who reached the Spartans first innings total with two balls left.

Losing the toss the Spartans were put in to bat on a damp slow track and fought all the way to reach 207 for 8

Skipper David Morgan with an excellent 71 assisted by Rajesh Raj 19 and Mohammed Rasel 17 were the only batsmen to make any sort of contribution with extras making up the rest.

In response young Shoaib Ali with 3 for 46 and Roshid Ali 2 for 26 were the main wicket takers and being one bowler light proved the major factor in the end as the Vale won in the last over.
