LAST Saturday was a special day in the calendar for Lynda Lee, lady captain at Wenvoe Castle Golf Club.

The course was reserved for the lady captain to organise a competition for the lady members and follow with a welcome glass of Prosecco, an excellent lunch and distribution of the prizes.

The competition was very well supported with 34 Ladies playing an 18-hole stableford team event and importantly a shotgun start meant all arriving back at the club house for the very welcome drink and lunch.

The team event was based on three players with the best two scores to count and all three scores on the par 3 holes.

The winning team were Jane Lott, Caroline Davies and Jill Rodgers with an impressive 84 points.

Runners up were Sandra Hathway, Nicola Manning and Silvia Webster scoring a total of 78 points.

Wendy Motton won a special prize for nearest the line on the 14th fairway, the ball finishing just millimetres away from the line.

After the golf they were joined by the non-playing lady members together with two New2Golf members and all sat down to a lunch of ham/salmon salad and new potatoes followed by strawberries and ice cream plus coffee.

The lady captain thanked everyone for their support and particularly Debbie Jones and Sue Dayanandar for setting out the excellent table decorations with ‘Kiss Sepsis Goodbye’ as the main theme highlighting the support of her nominated Charity Sepsis UK.

Lynda gave particular thanks to Wendy Motton and the club secretary, Nicola Manning, together with the club professional, Jason Harris, for organising the day and gave special appreciation of the chef and catering staff for presenting serving an outstanding lunch.

The weather conditions on the day were just perfect and Lynda thanked the green staff for presenting the course in such superb condition.

The club captain, Lesley Sherrard also took part and received a surprise birthday gift from the lady members.

The lady captain presented her with a flowering shrub and a hand made birthday card of Wenvoe Castle Golf Club which was crafted by committee member Marilyn Davies.

Everyone enjoyed this special day, particularly the welcome glass of Prosecco!
