ON a rare week with only one team match it was still busy at Sully Bowling Club, but first a story.

Have you heard the one about the bowler who played his way to two county finals and then forgot the date and booked a holiday for that week? Yes it happened.

Congratulations to Brain Griffiths who is through to the national finals in the senior singles, and along with Dave Curtis and Alan Thomas the finals of the senior triples.

Dave is also at the semi final stage of the champion of champions.

Saturday saw the villagers play at home to the newly promoted Cyfarthfa Castle from Merthyr. With a few enforced changes and last weeks bad loss it was not a confident team that took to the green.

At seven ends it was even with two rinks up and five shots to the good, and by fourteen ends not much change but six shots up.

The villagers then suddenly burst into life in the home stretch.

The Brain Griffiths rink having been behind all the way took six of the last seven ends and 13 shots to win 25-18. The Dennis Edwards rink with B Curtis J Hubbard and Chris Williams ,making a much welcomed return to the club, although never behind did the same winning the last six for a great 25-11 win.

A Rees ,K Mahoney, A Thomas, D Curtis were behind most of the afternoon but took eight shots in the last four to win 26-18. D Lougher, D Curtin, J Best,T Murphy where always in control and gained another scalp winning 25-19.

So 14 points and 101-66 was a great result.

This week it is away to Cadoxton Wednesday, Huw Meddins Cup at Dinas Powis Friday and home to Millwood on Saturday, Good Bowling all.
