A BUSY weekend of golf at Brynhill, kicked off with the annual Festival Texas Scramble on Saturday, top team on the day were the Fun Boy Four of Cael Penberthy, Nathan Clissold, Dave Stephenson and Calvin McLaggon, whose 58.5 was good enough see off the competition.

Top Ladies Team, with a decent 68, was Linda Hewlett, Robbie Lee, Glynis Gould and Helena Coombes.

On Sunday it was back to more serious business with the Bob Hope Trophy and Tennessee Cup on the line, the former being a handicap contest while the latter was played off scratch.

Eight handicapper Huw Vaughan won the “Tennessee” with a magnificent level par 72 and when his eight shots were removed his net 64, seven better than second placed Paddy Moore, meant he had romped the “Bob” as well.

Handicap secretary Slasher Giles had to be Tasered when he heard the results and it’s a certainty Huw won’t have the luxury of 8 shots next weekend.

When again two prizes are up for grabs, the Queen’s Coronation Cup for golfers and the Victory Trophy for the Hackerati.

With both being stroke play medals there’s precious little room for error but, as always at Brynhill, golf will be the real winner.
