JAMES Savory from Barry was the only Special Olympics athlete from Cardiff & Vale group to travel to Wrexham for the Welsh Regional Open Badminton Championship after meeting up with old friends on the Friday evening.

Saturday morning started with the singles with some 50 players taking part.

James played well throughout his group games, finally ending in third place.

Sunday saw the doubles competition with mixed doubles starting the day off.

On completion of the mixed doubles the men's and ladies doubles, James teamed up with him doubles partner of many years Stephen Davies from Wrexham.

Both were defending the men's doubles title which they have won for the last five years.

They started strongly which continued throughout the day to once again take the gold medal and Welsh men's doubles title for the sixth year running.
