LAST Wednesday saw a much changed Sully Bowling Club travel to Millwood.

With just enough available to make a side it didn't help that one of our evergreen youth players thought he was at home so eventually turned up quite late.

On the green, right from the off Sully were in control.

After six ends all rinks up by a total of twenty plus was a good start and so it stayed, eventually running out 44-74 winners and fourteen points to the good away from home.

R Fitzjohn, A Kelly, H Thomas, D Edwards 12-19, D Hodges, J Hubbard, A Rees, J Best,9-17, G John, R Nethercote, K Mahoney, M Hardy, 10-17, D Lougher, B Danscombe, P Neale, T Murphy,13-21

Saturday brought the first league match, home to Llantwit Major who had beaten the villagers easily in an early season friendly,so this was expected to be a real battle.

Although lovely, the wind was fierce and made it very difficult to control the bowl.

A near full strength side took to the green.

What a difference in the standard of play was seen by all, with three rinks up after seven ends and a 12 shot lead. After fourteen ends it was still much the same with a eighteen shot lead, but then the change started

The B Griffiths rink of A Smith, E Pryer and M Hardy lost six ends in a row to go behind for the first time but pulled it back in the last two ends to win 24-22.

Next door the rink of G John, R Fitzjohn,A Thomas, D Curtis were always in control and won 24-8. The new rink of D Curtin K Mahoney J Best T Murphy, had a great battle all afternoon with some really good bowling by all and won 24-13.

Special goes to the rink of B Curtis, J Hubbard A Rees,D Edwards who were behind from the second end to the twentieth but by keeping in there and taking seven shots in the last three ends they got a 19-19 draw and a great point for the team.

Sully 91-62 winners and 13 points to the good.

This week it is home again on Saturday to Senghenydd and on Sunday in the Alan Martin to Rhoose.
