With several players once again missing for a variety of reasons, Sully Centurions had another mixed weekend in the South East Wales Cricket League.

The 1st XI made the short trip to Dinas Powys and chalked up a second successive victory.

Batting first, openers Rhett Jones (53) and Lloyd Bruce (39) put on 73 for the first wicket.

The runs kept coming, with half centuries for Tom Davies and Dan Chaulk and 47 for Calum Thomas. Alfie Lee (15) and Gareth Thomas (18) helped push the score past the 300 mark for the loss of 5 wickets. The home side’s bowlers shared the wickets around, with Marlow (1 for 35 off 9 overs) posting the best figures.

After tea, Centurions took two early wickets, having both Dinas openers back in the pavilion with 37 runs on the board. In spite of some decent middle order performances from Todd-Bennett (44) Wingren (27) and skipper Mitchell (31) the Sully bowlers had the upper hand.

The Dinas Powys tail end stubbornly held on, denying Centurions maximum bowling points, but two wickets each for Nathan Cuddihy, Harish Hirani and Alfie Lee, with one wicket each for Lloyd Bruce and Gareth Thomas secured the victory.

The 2nd XI entertained Dinas 2nds in the reverse fixture at Burnham Avenue and, with a much-depleted team, lost by 7 wickets.

Sully batted first and opener Jason Hicks hung around for a well made 52 not out, providing the foundation for a gutsy performance with the bat. But, although Centurions batted out the 40 overs, the total of 158 for 7 always looked as though it was about 20 runs short.

In reply, in spite of losing Lewis with the score on just 13, the visitors soon got into their stride. Mitchell (44) Bennet (26) and Smith (36) did the job for Dinas and the target was reached with three overs to spare for the loss of just three wickets.
