YOUR local community club had a busy weekend, with teams travelling across South Wales to fulfil fixtures in the South Wales leagues.

The ladies team (Alison Williams, Penny Mickelsen, Claire Mott and Sally Preston) hosted Bridgend Tennis club at Romilly Park on Sunday afternoon, and after securing a comprehensive win of all 4 rubbers, the visitors enjoyed a picnic with the home team in glorious spring sunshine amid the beautiful park surroundings.

The 12u girls (Grace Mickelsen, age 11, Barry Island Primary School, and Poppy Williams, age 12, St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School) travelled to Allt-Yr-Yn tennis club in Newport and retained their 100% win rate by winning the fixture 3-0, while the 9u team (Lacie Robinson-Goddard, age 8, Palmerston Primary School, Julia Papierowska, age 9, Kirsten Jones, age 9, and Marta Szymanowicz age 9, all St Helen’s Catholic Primary School) travelled to Bridgend tennis club for their first fixture of the season and narrowly lost overall by 4 rubbers to 6.

The summer season is now well underway and teams are in action most weekends at home or away.

If you would like to find out more about the club, there is an open day on Sunday 19th May from 12:30pm in Romilly Park, where there will be something for all ages and abilities to try on court, as well as lots of existing members to chat with about their involvement with the club.
