WHILE Storm Hannah forced the postponement of the first 9u team tennis fixture of the summer for Barry Community Tennis Club at the weekend, the Ladies Doubles and 8u teams were able to launch their campaigns with both teams travelling to meet their respective opponents Canton and Llantwit Major.

The 8u team of 4 consisted of Ethan Ashburner (7, Romilly Primary School) and Scott Mickelsen (7, Barry Island Primary School), both of whom have a lot of tennis experience, and they were joined by newcomers Jasper Rodwell (7, Barry Island Primary School) and Piotr Szymanowicz (7, St Helen’s Catholic Primary School).

Each player had to play 4 singles matches, and secured an overall victory for the visiting team by 9 matches to 7.

Sporting the new junior kit provided by United Carpets Cardiff, the club’s youngest members looked professional, had loads of fun and are looking forward to the rest of the summer season.

The ladies team, mother & daughter pair Penny & Grace Mickelsen, along with Sally Preston & Claire Mott, secured a win of 3 matches to 1 over Canton, in a very closely fought fixture, with 3 out of the 4 matches requiring a deciding 3rd set tiebreak.

The club is always welcoming new members, so whatever your level of experience, check out their social media channels or call at Romilly Park on Tuesday evenings or Sunday mornings to find out more.
