MONDAY, 8th April saw four Special Olympics Wales golfers set off for the Special Olympics West Midland Golf Tournament which was held at Bicester Golf Club.
On the Monday afternoon the four took part in a skills session with the golf professional which was enjoyed by all.
The following day saw the weather take a turn for the worse. First to tee off were the 18 hole division 1 group within this group was Sam Lazenbury (Barry).
The second group saw James Savory (Barry) tee off with the weather being overcast and the forecast for rain and all he could do was to do as much as possible before the rain came.
Our next golfers were in the 9 hole competition Adrian Abbott (Llantwit Major) and Mark Eveleigh (Barry).
Whilst the 18 holes golfers were just putting on the 3rd the heavens opened.
They sought what cover they could and asked the golfers did they want to continue.
They all agreed that they would carry on and look again at the weather situation at the end of the 9th hole.
At the end of the 7th hole the heavy rain had changed to a continuous drizzle so on they went till the end of the 9th at the end of the 9th.
They all retreated to the clubhouse where they discussed whether we carry on for the remaining nine holes.
On arriving at the clubhouse, they discovered that the 9 hole golfers had come in after four holes and all were soaked through.
After a change of clothing 4 of the 5 18 golfers carried on in continuous light drizzle with the occasional heavy down pour the further we went on the lighter the drizzle became until the rain stopped while they teed off on the 13th leaving us the last 5 holes to dry off.
Sam Lazenbury compete the 18 holes with a great round of 87 taking the title with his fellow teammate James Savory coming in 3rd.
Whilst Adrian Abbott and Mark Eveleigh received a participation medal as they did not complete the round.
We now return back to training to prepare for our next competition.
