AT Barry Island on Saturday, glorious sunshine welcomed over 30 bowlers at the Opening Day of the Barry Athletic 2019 bowling season.

Guests of honour were Myra Newman and her son Matthew, who together bowled the first bowls of the season on the lush Athletic green.

Myra’s husband David was a long time member at Barry Athletic, with the family participating not just on the bowling green, but also taking an active part in the tennis and squash sections.

The 2019 season will kick off on a high with the Athletic co-hosting 27 countries taking part in the Atlantic Championships, with not just stars from the home countries competing, but teams from far and wide including Kenya, Malta, Argentina and South Africa.

Even Brazil, Switzerland and the Czech Republic are represented.

Lasting 2 weeks, the tournament commences at Barry Island on Friday 10th May, with a whole days play for just £5, payable on the gate.

Matches will be played daily at the Athletic until May 22nd.

Following on from a very successful 2018 season, the Athletic are looking to add to their collection of trophies in 2019.

Always looking for new and experienced players to add to their growing membership, junior members will be made especially welcome.
