IT was Barry Cup semi final weekend, with Penarth Town and Cowbridge Town booking their places at Jenner Park for the Vale’s football showpiece.
Penarth Town came through a local derby against Cogan Coronation winning 4-1, and Cowbridge Town saw off Cadoxton Barry 5-0. The final should be an excellent game and fine occasion.
In league action, AFC Rhoose kept the title race alive with a 6-1 thumping of St Athan.
Rhoose stay second, ten points of the leaders with two games in hand.
Barry Athletic can seal the title with a win next week. Island Marine edged out Sully Sports with a thrilling 4-3 victory.
The result keeps Marine third, three points ahead of Cowbridge and one point behind Rhoose.
In Division One, Tynewydd maintained second place and their push for promotion with a fantastic 2-1 win over champions Holton Road.
Cadoxton Imps are hot on their heels after a 5-2 triumph over SP Billy.
Imps stay three points behind Tynny with a game in hand, with the two sides meeting next week in a crunch fixture.
Cardiff Airport continued their recent form with a 3-1 victory over Cwm Talwg.
Just the one game in Division Two, Island Marine held leaders AFC Rhoose B to a 1-1 draw in a very impressive result.
Marine B rise a place to 6th on goal difference.
Rhoose B now take on Barry Vikings next week in a game that will go a long way in deciding who wins the title.
An entertaining Saturday in the bag, but next weekend is a super Saturday with several big games that will shape the outcome of the season.
