Vale of Glamorgan Football League round-up

PREMIER Division leaders Barry Athletic maintained their lead at the top, as they came away from Bear Field with all three points in an impressive 3-1 win over Cowbridge Town. The result brings to an end Town’s four game winning streak.

Penarth are now seven points off the leaders having played two more games, with their title challenge looking possibly over. Town drop to third with AFC Rhoose leapfrogging them into second following a 2-1 win over Sully Sports. Bevan and Tutch getting the goals that keep Rhoose seven points behind the leaders but with a game in hand.

Only two games in Division One, Cogan Coronation moved up a spot to fourth after a big 5-1 victory over SP Billy at the Rec, while Tynewydd went second with a 2-1 win over Cardiff Airport, that’s four league losses on the bounce for Airport.

Into Division Two, it’s was a coupon buster as league leaders AFC Rhoose B suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to bottom side Vale Madrid at Burnham Avenue, only Rhoose’s second loss this term. St Athan B cut the gap to a point, although have played a game more, with a good 5-3 triumph over Barry Athletic B.

The win gets St Athan B back to winning ways after two successive defeats ahead of the top of the table clash against Rhoose B on Saturday. Barry Viking’s kept their interest in the title alive and well as they hammered Cadoxton Athletic 6-1, that’s now six league games without a win for Athletic. Penarth Town B went fourth with a 2-1 win over Island Marine B at Cwrt Y Vil, to stretch their run to five undefeated.
