IT has been another busy few weeks for Barry Amateur Swimming Club.

On September 21st and 28th we held our annual 800 metres sponsored swim.

Many members were able to take part, each having to swim 32 lengths of the pool as fast as possible in their respective age groups.

In the 8 and under age group the cups were won by Bryony Boyce and Cameron martin.

A recent new member to the club Elizabeth Filise, who is only 7, also competed and came a credible 2nd

There was a large entry in the 10 and under age group with Abbie Duroe and Harrison Martin proving to be the winners.

Harrison once again recorded an excellent time for this age group.

In the 12 and under age section there was also an increase in entrants with Ruby Dickson Davies and Riley Dos Santos winning trophies.

Two member in this age group improved their times by 6 minutes over last year, Sebastian Fidler and Alfie Sargeant.

Nia Thomas and Harry Townsend won the 14 and under trophies while Pia Sully and Iestyn Perkins were the winners in the 16 and under category.

On Sunday October 14th the club hosted the annual Ray Sutton Gala with teams from Cwmbran, Pontypridd, Rhondda and RCT attending.

Due to a recent influx of new members Barry were able to enter an “A” and “B” team.

This gave many of our new members an opportunity to compete in their first Gala in what proved to be an excited and noisy environment.

The eventual winners were the RCT team who were presented the trophy by Heulwen Cooper our Chairperson.

Although not in the top three places the competition between Barry and Cwmbran was tight with Cwmbran beating Barry into fourth place by a single point.

The gala would not have been possible without the continued support of the club members and their families, participating officials and the staff of Barry Leisure Centre.
