AT an evening event held at the premises of Barry Yacht Club on Sunday, October 14, the 90th anniversary of this founding was celebrated by more than 100 present and past members of the club.
A prime intention of this event was to encourage the attendance of as many of the ex-commodores of the club as possible.
A total of 20 of these past officers attended and were welcomed by the present commodore Keith Lewis.
Also present was the vice commodore Jennifer Haig-Harrison, together with president Brian Dotchon, and vice presidents Mike Righton and Roger Donkin.
The social events committee had arranged the evening with wine and light refreshments provided.
After an address by the commodore welcoming the guests and members, the president outlined the history of the club from its inception.
The club has come a long way since October 17, 1928, following an advertisement in a local newspaper requesting the attendance of people interested in sailing and boating, there was a meeting at the Ship Hotel in Barry.
Five people, plus a reporter, attended this meeting and two weeks later a second meeting was attended by 15 people. The Barry Yacht and Motor Boat Club was formed.
