WITH the Barry course bathed in beautiful autumnal sunshine the members played for the John Collins Foundation Cup, writes Alan Sweeny.

John is a legend in Welsh junior golf, indeed you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who has contributed more to junior golf, not only at Brynhill but at County and at national level too.

The competition itself was very keenly contested, needing a back nine count back to split Mike Fairhurst and Greg Mills, with both players finishing on 38 points.

Mike nicked the win and with Cardiff tanking Fulham as well, it was a particularly good weekend for the City supporting Llantwit boy.

This coming weekend the weather delayed Marcus Watt Cup will be contested by the Hackerati, while the Ken Murphy scratch comp will also be up for grabs.

With bitterly cold weather forecast it will be interesting to see how many crackpots turn up in shorts.

Yours truly certainly won’t be amongst them, as cold kills the old, so it’s plenty of layers for me.

Swing well and remember golfs the real winner.
