Cadoxton Barry 3 - 1 SP Billy

ALTHOUGH the score would suggest a comfortable home win, for all but the last 15 minutes it was anything but a walk in the park for Cadoxton Barry in Vale of Glamorgan League Division One.

Indeed, Billy probably just had the edge for the first fifteen minutes.

But CB gradually played their way into contention to take the lead in the 20th minute when Ingham embarked on a run down the left before crossing to Jenkinson to send a powerful shot into the far right of the visitors' net.

However, it turned out to be a short lived lead as Cox stepped up to convert a penalty awarded when a CB player ended a promising looking Billy move just inside the box.

But only two minutes further down the line, CB's Ingham was upended in the Billy box, though the same player's spot kick lacked commitment and was well saved by the Billy 'keeper.

A J committed a lunging tackle on Palmer near the right touch line to deservedly earn a yellow card, but Palmer's retaliation in the shape of a throttle hold on his opponent's neck was not spotted by the referee, otherwise he would have had his marching orders - an exceptional incident in an otherwise sportingly played match.

Then with the half time whistle not far off CB 'keeper Kinch, rolled the ball out while not seeing an SP player nearby and ready for an easy interception.

It looked like being curtains for Kinch, but somehow he managed to get back to make the save which also saved him a few blushes.

With Billy still looking confident, Harvey and Hartrey combined to get the ball forward to Jenkinson who executed a cleaver little turn before striking home with a beautiful rising shot from near the edge of the box to restore the home sides' lead.

But, yet again, it didn't look as though CB's lead was going to last very long as a slip up at the left of the CB defence offered Casey Davies the opportunity of scoring into an unguarded goal with no challenge in sight.

Some might argue that Davies' then became guilty of executing the miss of the century as the ball sailed high and ten yards wide - a very lucky let off for Cadoxton Barry.

And in another SP Billy break, with the CB defence out of position, an equalizer again looked on the cards, a Kinch fingertip save low to his left just saving the day for CB.

But the final fifteen minutes belonged almost entirely to CB as they pressed for long periods, Sansome firing over the bar following a period of keep ball. But eventually the hard work was rewarded when Jenkinson threaded the ball across to Yeoman to curl home from a couple of yards inside the box.

CB are without a fixture next Saturday with a cup tie to look forward to the following week.
