A COMBINATION of favourable weather and good green keeping meant Brynhill was in superb condition for the Holme Towers Cup.

I opined last week good scores would be required to be in the mix for this one and so it proved, with 7 handicapper Cael Penberthy’s 67 just edging out Phil Townsend, who finished a solitary shot behind with a battling 68, with life in the old dog Kevin Perry third on 69.

Not content with winning best nett Penberthy also recorded the day’s best gross with an excellent two over par 74.

This Saturday the Captains Select Team will play the first and second team in a shotgun start, great format unless your drawn to tee off on the 15th as it leaves a two-mile yomp back to the clubhouse when your 18 holes finish on the 14th green.

Sunday again sees two prizes up for grabs with yet another medal round.

The Marcus Watt a nett handicap competition, while the Ken Murphy Cup is a scratch contest for real golfers.

We like to spread the love at Brynhill so winning both is frowned on, greedy Penberthy obviously didn’t get the memo last week.
