Closely Fought Cadoxton Derby

Vale of Glamorgan League Division One

Cadoxton Imps 3 - 2 Cadoxton Barry

CB had the edge in this match up until the 20th minute when Imps broke upfield to earn a corner.

It was looped into space from the right, just perfect for former CB Alliance League player, Ricky Sansome, to run into and score with a fine header.

A good CB passing move ended with Kirk seeing his header being well gathered by the home 'keeper. And as half time approached Ingham and Jenkinson missed out on a series of CB opportunities, Ingham seeing a header well cleared off the line.

Despite the fact that it was the last Saturday of September overheated players were grateful for an unofficial water break when there was a short injury delay on the warm autumn day.

Refreshed, play continued with CB retaining the upper hand to the half time break.

And, indeed, they continued in that mode during the early stages of the second half to be rewarded with two goals in the space of a short time.

Firstly, CB's man of the match, Walsh, won a ball in his own half to feed a through ball to Jenkinson who dummied past three challenges before stroking a ground shot home wide of the 'keeper's dive to the left.

But this marked the end of CB's spell of control as Imps spent the next seven or eight minutes constantly in the CB half, the visitors being very fortunate to come out of it unscathed before braking away to feed the industrious Ingham.

Forced wide he passed to Rowlands who scored with a fine shot from wide on the right.

But back came Imps to earn a free kick out wide to the left.

The well struck shot rattled the cross bar before rebounding back into play for the alert forward to head home before any CB defender could react.

And Imps continued to press to eventually take back the lead when the ball was worked over to the right from where Ewings struck a blistering rising drive that left McDougal, in the CB goal, with absolutely no chance.

With just ten minutes remaining, CB began to wake up and should really have equalized when a throw in level with the left hand side of the box was chipped across the face of an unguarded goal, but somehow the incoming Ingham failed to make the simple contact that would have earned the visitors a point.
