IT appears someone has angered the ‘Golfing Gods’ with both the eagerly anticipated 1st/2nd team V Captains Select on Saturday and the weekly Sunday Comp washed out by heavy rain.

However calls for the ritual sacrifice of a committee member on the 18th to appease them are premature.

The weekend was not a total right off though, as the club received a call from a David Gurney in Exeter. Dave is researching his family history and remembered as a child spending happy times at the Barry course with his mother.

He was unsure exactly how prominent a role his mum played at the club, so with this in mind current captain Mark Weaver offered out an invitation to Dave and his partner Jackie, to visit the clubhouse on Saturday to do some digging.

Turns out not only did Dave’s mum Catherine play off an impressive 5 handicap and represent the Ladies team, she was in fact lady captain of the illustrious club in 1960.

Dave and Jackie were presented with a Brynhill Flag and a free social membership of the club, which allows them to visit Brynhill whenever they are in the area.

Now if the Golf Gods smile upon us and the course is open this weekend we’ll battle it out for the Kenyon Davies Cup, if not it’s time to fire up the Wicker Man.
