FROM a first minute opener to a stoppage-time winner through a straight red card and a comeback super strike, there was plenty of drama to be found at Jenner Park on Saturday, as Barry Town United entertained Cefn Druids in the JD Welsh Premier League.

With Connah's Quay awaiting their evening kick-off in Llandudno, Barry began the day with the opportunity to go second, but the hosts were left reeling from the get-go as Arek Pirskorski nipped in at the back post to put Druids ahead, a mere 15 seconds into the game.

Barry were then fortunate not to fall two adrift, when Dean Rittenberg's shot was uncharacteristically spilt by Mike Lewis before hitting a post and running free.

By half-time though, Town had found their stride and were asking more and more questions of the Druids defence, a theme that would continue after the break.

In the 53rd minute, Druids midfielder Ryan Kershaw followed through with a rash challenge on Barry's Chris Hugh that left the flying full-back grounded.

The result was an immediate red; and the chance for Barry to capitalise on their new one-man advantage.

Zipping down the right, Macaulay Southam-Hales would soon set up Jonathan Hood to head over the crossbar, before Modou Touray's long-range effort forced a fine aerial save from Druids' Michael Jones.

In the midst of a top performance, Jones would later make an instinctive body stop to keep the Town at bay.

With a little over 20 minutes remaining, Barry manager Gavin Chesterfield would ring the changes, swapping out Hood and Clayton Green for Tom Fry and Jordan Cotterill, the latter making a welcome return to action after an injury suffered in pre-season.

It was club captain Cotterill who would fittingly then find the breakthrough, exchanging a sharp one-two with Town teammate Touray, before unleashing a stunning shot that soared into the Cefn Druids net.

With all the momentum on their side and a fervent home support behind them, the Town then chased the winner, yet Jones would make another good save from Touray to keep matters even as full-time approached.

Nevertheless, Barry's persistence would be rewarded in the 92nd minute, when Touray received a terrific through ball from Cotterill, before cutting inside and firing a dramatic winner into the roof of Jones' goal.

The result ensured Barry moved briefly into second, their highest Welsh Premier League position since 2003, before falling to third after Connah's Quay's victory hours later.

Chesterfield's team will now be eager to continue their winning ways as they head to Aberystwyth Town on Saturday, with kick-off at Park Avenue at 2.30pm.
