BARRY Athletic Cricket's youth section hosted its annual presentation to celebrate a momentous 2018 season with over 220 people in attendance.

The evening was hosted at Barry Athletic Cricket Club with a number of VIP’s in attendance including Barry Round Table, Kiran Carlson from Glamorgan Cricket and the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, Leighton Rowlands.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Barry Athletic Cricket Junior Coordinator Mark Ellis.

Mark was ably assisted throughout the season by a team of coaches representing the Under 9 and U11 teams.

With the club competing brilliantly in the Cardiff & Vale Junior Cricket League, it was important to recognise a number of major achievements throughout the season.

These included notable wins against Penarth, St Fagans and Cowbridge, the running of two successful All Stars programme with All Stars progressing into the Under 9s team.

The winter All Stars programme was held at Colcot Sports Hall with new activators being trained to coach the juniors

Players also attended Glamorgan T20 games and several also going to Glamorgan training camps held at Sophia Gardens.

The evening began with outdoor games which were great fun and even though the showers meant there was a premature end to the outside activities the children were then entertained by Simon Sparkles, a local magician.

A big thank you to local supermarkets Asda, Tescos, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose who provided the food for the BBQ.

The awards ceremony consisted of individual awards to 44 children and 16 awards were handed out for individual performances.

A cheque was presented by the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan for £250 as part of the Mayors Foundation helping local community organisations such as Barry Athletic Cricket Club.

The evening finished with flowers presented to tea lady and bar person Claire Usswald, to Cynthia Ellis and Nina Ray for all the behind the scenes work and to Michelle Skinner and Alex McGregor for their help and assistance with the Under 9s.

A raffle raised £124 towards the running costs of the club and the junior section would like to thank the following coaches for their help during the season, Tommy Miller, Mark Williams, Ricky Hatton, Dickie Eastman, Mark Rees, Glan Williams, Wesley Baker, Ashley Baker, Peter Hellyar, Conrad Venter and Kristan Evans.

Mark Ellis announced that he is standing down from both the junior coordinator and the child welfare officer role with immediate effect so if anyone is interested in taking on the position please contact club secretary Mark Rees.

The senior presentation night takes place this Saturday and will be held at the Barry Athletic Cricket Clubhouse.
