IT was fitting after the excesses of Saturdays, Mothers Ruin Night, during which numerous varieties of gin were “sampled” that Brynhill should host a Texas Scramble on the following day.

Texas Scramble is the synchronised swimming of golf competitions, where the winning formula is a good golfer finds 3 choppers to keep him company on the stroll round the course.

Best on the day were Little, Lewis, Phillips and Manuel from Fawlty Towers with 58, in Second was Hopkins, Philips, Pierce and Lloyd with 59.1.

Next week it’s back to proper golf with the rearranged, rearranged second day of the Captains Prize, 3rd time lucky hopefully.

Brynhill’s battling Wayfarers sealed first place in the League and promotion to the Premier Division, when they beat Tredegar Park Golf Club away on Tuesday.

A magnificent achievement from the Barry club.

Congratulations are also in order for Brynhill member Mike Moore Jnr who completed the Iron Man Wales in 15 hours 36 minutes, not too shabby a time for a two and a half mile swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride topped off with a marathon.

No congratulations are due however, for Hero to Zero mentalist Mitchel Taylor-Moore, who let not only himself down but also his family, friends golf club, and the town of Barry, when he carded a shambolic 10 points (26 over handicap) over the stunning Knowle Golf Club in Bristol.
