The league season finished for Cadoxton with a home fixture against Cyfarthfa Castle.

On a nice sunny day a close competition took place, with the outcome not settled until the final bowl.

The advantage changed regularly, with the home side taking an advantage during the early stages.

After seven ends, Don Kuhnell’s rink lead 7-2, with an overall advantage of two shots.

However with the opposition winning a ‘2’ on the next, they set the mat at the minimum length.

This resulted in a ‘6’ in their favour.

At this stage the overall position was now an advantage of six shots, to the visitors.

Meanwhile Derek Jefferies rink was level at 7-7.

Kelvin Chedgzoy who led 5-2 had slipped to 7-5 behind and Howard Craven was just 1 shot behind at 7-8.

They improved their position by improving their score to 14-11, whilst Kelvin trailed 8-14 and Don 9-16 adrift.

There was a big improvement during the second half from Derek’s rink, scoring 16 shots with 5 against. With also improvements from the other rinks, the overall score was tied with one end left.

On the final end Don’s rink came off first, scoring a ‘2’, Derek conceded a ‘2’, followed by 1 down on Howards rink, after narrowly failing to remove the shot to make a ‘4’.

Last rink on skipped by Kelvin held two shots only for the opposing skip to be fortunate, with a heavy bowl, to stop on one of the shot bowls to make shot, to win the game.
