GOALS from Kayne McLaggon and Momodou Touray bookended an impressive 2-0 victory for Barry Town United at the weekend, the Jenner Park side scalping Connah's Quay Nomads to scupper their 100% record and shoot to fourth in the JD Welsh Premier League.

Having recently beaten champions The New Saints, Welsh Cup holders the Nomads arrived in the Vale of Glamorgan as firm favourites to continue their title tilt.

However, the ambitious visitors would find themselves on the back foot for significant portions of Saturday's match, as a battling and sometimes brilliant Barry delivered their finest performance of the campaign thus far.

After an early free-kick from McLaggon forced a flying save out goalkeeper John Danby, Barry's leading scorer would win and successfully convert a penalty in the sixth minute to put his hometown team ahead.

While Nomads hitman Michael Bakare would go close to equalising at the back post, it was Danby's goal that remained most threatened, with the experienced #1 saving with his feet from Curtis Watkins, before seeing a Touray scoop shot hit the bar and bounce off his line.

Momentarily denied, Touray looked to have set up Barry's second as his cross was bundled home by Jonathan Hood, but the referee would penalise the former Port Talbot Town marksman for handball.

Nevertheless, it would be a day to remember for 19-year old Touray, who coolly finished off a fast-paced breakaway move to claim his first competitive goal since arriving at Jenner Park on loan from Newport County AFC.

With the determined Barry defence coping effectively with everything their opponents could throw at them, it would end up being a worthy 2-0 win for the Town, who excelled in preventing their visitors from playing, while playing some good flowing football themselves.

Having snapped up seven points from their tough four-game start, Gavin Chesterfield's squad hit the north on Saturday to tackle Llandudno, with kick-off at 2.30pm.
