SOME quality golf was played at a glorious Brynhill on Sunday, a blistering 42 points from Nad Hock being just enough to secure victory in the Porth Cup, with second placed Tony Green losing out by a solitary point.

Handicap secretary Slasher Giles is sharpening his pencil boys.

Talking of Slasher, rumour has it he had to be sedated when he found out Mitchel Taylor-Moore had won something else. This time the Harry Cocks Cup with a solid 40 points, only one point better than second placed Dave Taylor but enough to secure yet another trophy for his already crowded cabinet, what a fantastic season he’s having.

However the murmurings in the clubhouse are getting louder and I fear only a multi shot reduction for the bandito Taylor-Moore will quell full blown rebellion.

On the team golf front, Brynhill’s last chance of bringing glory to Barry lies with the battling Wayfarers team.

Despite being captained by babbling chimp Terry Hewings, they need only a point and a half away to Tredegar Park to secure the league, not a given by any means but definitely doable, “Carpe Diem” troops. The cup however proved to be a bridge too far, as a very strong Cardiff GC hammered them at home 4-1, with only the ever reliable Sweeny/Goodland partnership preventing a total whitewash.

This Sunday sees a Texas Scramble over the Barry Course, 4 bangs at every tee shot, 4 stabs at every putt, seriously gentlemen if you can’t score well in this format take up Zumba.

Enjoy your golf.
