DINAS Powys Cricket Club 1st XI entertained promotion chasing Creigiau in their final home match of the season.

The visitors showed their enthusiasm by arriving an hour early for a thorough warm up.

Creigiau then won the toss and had no hesitation in choosing to bowl first.

This proved a good decision, with some balls lifting and some stopping on an unreliable pitch.

Dinas were soon in trouble at 14/2, leaving skipper Gordon Hannah and Curtis Wingren to try to rebuild the innings.

They managed to advance the score to 67 before Hannah was out immediately after the drinks break for a painstaking 27.

Wingren was eventually out stumped for 72, but other batsmen could not reach the boundary as Dinas limped to 168/8 in their 45 overs, helped by Upi Singh scoring 9 in the last over.

Early wickets were crucial if Dinas were to unsettle Creigiau, and Lewie Clarke took a catch of the bowling of Alex Vowles (2/16 off 9) in the 5th over.

Vowles bowled with his usual economy, while Singh and Ryan Todd bowled well at the other end, but without success.

However Creigiau were moving comfortably towards their target, and the score reached 102 before another wicket fell, when Wingren took a sharp slip catch of Clarke's bowling.

A catch by Miles Wilton from Vowles brought a 3rd wicket at 144 as Dinas sought bonus bowling points, but Creigiau cruised to a seven-wicket win with more than five overs to spare.

With other results largely going in their favour Dinas remain fourth from bottom with one match left, away to Vale next week, but it's tight.

The 2nds, safe from relegation travelled to Crumlin. Winning the toss stand in skip Red Todd-Bennett elected to field first.

Wickets were shared as the Villagers bowled Crumlin out for 171 in the 38th over.

Sam Marlow (2-3 in 2 overs), with James Hiscocks (2-31 in 9), Rhys Lloyd (2-44 in 8) and Olly Coughtrey (2-49 in 7) taking a couple of wickets each with one apiece for John Clogg and Ian Coughtrey.

In reply, the Dinas batting that's looked thin all season struggled again with no one getting a decent score.

Ryan Mullins (27), John Clogg (20 not out) and James Hiscocks (15) were the only ones to make double figures as the remaining eight made 16 between them, the end coming with the score on 103.

The result of the day came at Chepstow where the 3rds ran out winners by 8 wickets in their final league game of the season.

After a challenging season, struggling to get a side out most weeks, and thankful for regular appearances by U13 players (and their Dads!), skipper Gareth Storey won the toss and put the opposition in. Storey took 3-15, but there were wickets for young Will Palmer (2-9) and Jack Phillips-Jones (2-21), Andy Hurley (2-24) and Will McConkey 1-6) as Chepstow were bowled out for 91 in 32 overs.

With Storey vying for a "my bat, my ball" moment top scoring with 28 before being out LBW in reply, the steady Alun Harris (24 not out) and Rob Tucker (19 not out) saw the Villagers home by 8 wickets for a morale boosting win to end their season.

Saturday's league fixtures: 1st XI v Vale CC (away).
