THE popular Ladies Open Day at Wenvoe Castle was held last Friday with entries from many golf clubs throughout the region and a few further afield.

The changeable weather conditions meant a risk of some showers but generally the rain kept away and umbrellas were rarely seen.

The competition was organised as a team event with the best two scores to count from each team of three players.

As usual there were separate prizes were for visiting teams and those representing Wenvoe Castle.

The top visitors score was 74 points produced by Andrea Page, Lisa Taylor and Linda Lloyd of nearby Brynhill Golf Club.

Just missing out by a single point were Andrea Downing, Imelda Nash and Mags Probert from Pontnewydd Golf Club who scored 73 points.

There was also some close competition among the Wenvoe Castle teams and the winners were Jane Lott, Caroline Holland and Sandra Champ who posted an excellent sore of 77 points to win by the narrowest of margins, on count back, from Judy Green, Fran Grant and Jayne Smith.

Sue Bridle of Dinas Powis Golf Club took the prize for nearest the pin on the second hole with the ball coming to rest 505 cm from the pin.

Maggie Newton from Llanishen Golf Club recorded the longest drive on the 14th fairway.

Wenvoe Castle club captain, Mike Chick, presented the prizes and in congratulating the winners thanked all the competitors for their support.

He also gave particular thanks to the Ladies Section of the Golf Club for their excellent administration throughout a long day and appreciated the traditional first class service provided by the bar and catering staff.

The golf course was continuing to recover from the exceptionally hot summer months and the green staff were thanked for presenting the course, particularly the greens in such fine condition.
