D Kuhnell 21 - 12 P Edwards, M Gronow, A Bryan, G Cogbill 56¾ - 68

Cadoxton was the venue for this Munro Cup match against near neighbours Romilly.

The green looked nice after the recent rain, but this made it heavier than ever.

The rink skipped by Steve Clarke was short of one player so was penalised by a ¼ of their shots.

So the narrow three shot defeat was increased to 6¼.

They started well with a 5-0 advantage, which was increased to 8-1, before the opposition monopolised the scoring over the remaining ends except for three successes.

Howard Craven trailed 3-4 after 6 ends but two ‘3’s by the opposition skipped by Mel Newman opened a gap that was never recovered. Derek Jeffries was level 3-3 after 4 ends against opposing skip Mike Doyle. The home side were successful in eight of the remaining ends, but mostly singles.

However, the seven losing ends included a ‘3’ a ‘4’ & ‘5’.

Don Kuhnell came up against Graham Cogbill as his opposing skip, and was 8-0 down after just three ends.

Over the next five ends, three shots were added to both sides, giving the visitors an 11 -3 advantage.

Dramatically during the remaining ten ends, the visitors only managed to score a single whilst eighteen shots were amassed against them.

The scores were level at 12 each, with three ends left, when a drive, produced a ‘4’ for the home side.

The recovery was completed with a ‘2’ & a ‘3’ on the final ends.

Credit must be given to Jim Stacey for his consistent, excellent bowls, throughout with Ivor and Jim Davies also playing a big part in this success.

Cadoxton v Rhoose – CML 4 (Away)

E Heppenstall, E Davies, M Curtis, K Chedgzoy 18 – 30 L Wilmott, R Behrans, T Martin, C Ashdwon, J Stacey, A Prince, S Clarke, D Kuhnell, 14 – 31 M Hicks, M Banks, N parry, G Williams, J Papoutsou I Heppenstall, D Jeffries 5 – 42 C Dance, P Barnett, T Lages, P Williams, G Solomon, D Sluman, W Craven, H Craven 12 - 33, D Kendall, R Beardman, M White, G Lages 49 – 136

The visit to the all-weather green at Rhoose brought little joy to Cadoxton, in this CML fixture, as is the fate of most sides, with heavy defeats for most of the visitors.

The rink skipped by Derek Jeffries had a player call-off at the last minute.

As a result together with the variance of the green and the shortage, they failed to score during the first eleven ends, and trailed 26 -0 A heavy defeat was the outcome.

Kelvin Chedgzoy also had a bad start on his rink with a ‘5’ & ‘6’ against in the early stages.

After nine ends they were 20 – 3 down, and by the 15th end the score was 27 – 6. A late recovery brought 12 shots during the last 6 ends, but too late to effect the result.

The other two rinks looked as though they could have some success, with each having good starts.

Howard Craven skipped his rink to an 11-2 advantage after seven ends.

On the next end a ‘5’ was conceded and this knocked their confidence and unfortunately only one further single was added. Don Kuhnell’s rink went the same way until they reached an 8 shot supremacy at 13 – 5.

However whatever they tried after this, everything went against them and they stuck on ‘Thirteen’ until a single on the final end, broke the deadlock.
