LAST Wednesday, David slew Goliath yet again for Sully Bowling Club, or that is how it felt.

The village bowlers travelled to Dinas Powis, past national champions and the side who a few weeks earlier on two rinks had an easy win, so nothing was expected.

How wrong this proved, with a side half of which were automatic selections because they didn't play on the Saturday this was a great result.

At 6 ends the home side where 23-19 up but sully started to find the pace of the green and by 12 ends Sully had gone in front 37-45.

The Dennis Edwards rink carried the night taking 8 shots in the last few ends and along with Fred Phillips where the 2 rinks up in a narrow 62-66 away win.

Ben Curtis Albert Kelly Alun Rees Dennis Edwards 20-9 Stewart Phillips, Paul Neale, Doug Hotchkiss, Fred Phillips 21-17 Kevin Mahoney, Richard Fitzjohn, Alen Thomas, Dave Curtis 12-17 Eddie Pryer, Brian Dascombe, Huw Thomas, Hugh Levick Jones 13-19.

Come Saturday the tide turned and in a must win game at home the villagers forgot to bowl in a difficult breeze and lost to the table topping Taffs Well.

All the way this was a tight game 5 ends 15-18 ,10 ends saw 2 in it 32-34 and at 15 it was only 47-49.

It might have been too much sun or just fatigue in the heat but Sully fell off a cliff winning a few ends but dropping lots of shots on others, me thinks must do better is the moto.

With only one rink up and they dropped 5 shots in the last four ends.

G John, R Fitzjohn, A Thomas, D Curtis 21-13 B Curtis, J Hubbard, T Murphy, D Edwards dropped 6 in the last 4 9-17 A Rees, H Levick Jones, D Hotchkiss, F Phillips dropped 10 in 4 12-26 A Smith, D Curtin, M Hardy, B Griffiths dropping 12 in last 6 22-24 64-80.

This week the villagers are home on Wednesday to Barry Romilly and away on Saturday to Fairoak at Roath Park.
