THE grey skies and persistent drizzle didn’t dampen the spirits of those competing for the Presidents Cup, over this magnificent Brynhill Course, particularly shameless John Windle, who carded an obscene score of 45 points (9 under handicap) to take the trophy by 3 shots from Elliot Palmer.
I’ve played with John and struggle to comprehend how someone with a swing more suited to clubbing baby seals to death on a Canadian ice flow, can score so well but I guess every dog has its day.
John and Elliot will obviously see their handicaps reduced by Slasher Giles, who’s in a particularly bitter mood after he and his partner Lee 'Crimewatch' Jones were humiliated 7 and 6 in the Bristol Cup, by the strong Cooper Lundrigan combo.
Biggest talking point of the day was a superb hole in one on the par three ninth, by the frequently confused chopper Colin Lewis.
Colin sat on the patio weeping softly till he found out the club actually picked up the drinks bill for his ace.
Next Sunday it’s back to Medal Golf with the Tennessee Cup (gross comp) for real golfers while the Bob Hope Trophy (net comp) will be contested by the hackarati.
As always at Brynhill, golf will be the real winner.
