BARRY Comprehensive School joined forces with Barry Rugby Club to host the largest cross border sevens tournament in Wales earlier this year.

The tournament was held at Barry Rugby Club and welcomed 32 of Britain’s best under-13 school teams.

Teams from as far afield as Devon, Doncaster, Sutton Coldfield, Cardigan, Llandovery and Monmouth joined a host of local sides including Barry Comprehensive, Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg, Ysgol Glantaf, Treorchy, Bryn Tawe and Plasmawr.

Barry Comprehensive reached the main cup final but were beaten by Ysgol Glantaf.

School staff donated their time to run the event, offering food, refreshments and a bar to visitors enjoying a day packed with exciting, first class school rugby.

Thanks to the support of the local community, including sponsorship from businesses New Broad Street Motors and Macron Store Cardiff, and great attendance by families and friends, the event was very successful.

Proceeds from the day will help support the school’s charity work in Sri Lanka as well as funding the school’s rugby programme.

The school would really like to thank Barry Rugby Club for all their help and allowing them to host the event there, showing what a fantastic community club they are.
